Promotions

Promotional offers in BigCommerce can take either of two forms - Automatic Promotions and Coupon Promotions. The most notable difference between the two is that, as the name implies, automatic promotions are applied automatically when a customer meets the specified criteria, whereas coupon promotions are specific codes that need to be entered at checkout to be applied.

Promotion Options

Additionally, the merchant can alter text and styling for the notification banners shown to the customer. There are four possible banners to show:

Congratulations Banner

This banner displays on the cart page when the customer has qualified for the discount and it has been applied (e.g. "Congratulations! Your order qualifies for free shipping!")

Eligible Banner

This banner displays on the cart page when a shopper qualifies for an order. It's useful for Buy One Get Something Else free situations, where the shopper needs to pick options (e.g. "Your order qualifies for a free item! Select your options here.")

Upsell Banner

This banner can be placed on the home, product, cart, and checkout pages. The message appears when a shopper has added something to their cart but does not qualify for a discount yet. (e.g. "Orders that spend $X will qualify for free shipping. You have spent $Y. Spend $Z more to qualify.")

Promotional Banner

The promotional banner is shown when there are other items in the cart and other banners do not apply. For example, when a shopper has added something to their cart and has made no progress toward meeting the condition of the promotion. It can be used to inform shoppers about ongoing promotions that are currently running to help drive conversion. (e.g. "Add X Product A to get $Y off your Product B")
