A merchant can set up any number of customer groups to assign a customer to. Customers may belong to multiple groups. Additionally, groups can be configured as follows:
Default Group
A group may be designated as the default group for all new customer registrations. This can also be different on different site channels (BigCommerce site, BC for WP site, etc.) as stores can have different storefronts, or "channels".
Group-Restricted Categories
Customer groups can be prohibited from viewing specific categories in the catalog. This could be useful for situations such as having wholesale customers, or specific products that do not ship to certain countries.
Discounts
Customer groups can be granted discounts en masse on different levels:
- All products belonging to a selected category or category and its subcategories
- Individually selected product / products
- Sitewide discount
All discounts can be applied in either of three ways:
- Price discount - (ex. $5 off per product)
- Percentage discount - (ex. 10% off per product)
- Fixed price (ex. $5 per product)
